The Dahlia flower is native to Mexico and Central America where it has been cultivated for centuries both as an ornamental and cultural symbol Dahlias are famous for their dazzling variety of shapes sizes and colors ranging from small delicate pompon-like blooms to giant dinner-plate varieties that can measure up to 30 centimeters across the plant itself typically grows from tuberous roots with upright stems and pinnate leaves and it can reach heights between 1 and 6 feet depending on the cultivar the flowers bloom from midsummer through the first frost providing vibrant color when many other plants have faded and the range of hues includes nearly every color except true blue and black which makes dahlias especially beloved among gardeners and florists.
