Trachelium caeruleum, commonly known as blue throatwort, is a striking flowering plant is native to the Mediterranean regions, particularly around western Europe and North Africa. It is prized for its dense, dome-shaped clusters of tiny star-shaped flowers that create a soft, cloud-like appearance and typically bloom in shades of deep violet, blue, lavender, or even white depending on the variety. The plant usually grows to a height of 30 to 90 centimeters and features slender, upright stems with narrow lance-shaped dark green leaves that create a lush background for the vibrant flower heads.

Trachelium caeruleum is a popular choice for ornamental gardening and floral arrangements due to its long vase life and attractive color, often used as filler in bouquets to complement larger focal blooms. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil with consistent moisture, making it suitable for borders, containers, and cottage gardens. In cooler climates it is often grown as an annual while in warmer zones it may be treated as a short-lived perennial, with regular deadheading encouraging prolonged blooming through summer and into early fall.

The plant is relatively low-maintenance and resistant to many pests and diseases though it may be susceptible to aphids or powdery mildew if overcrowded or grown in overly damp conditions. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, adding ecological value to ornamental settings. Trachelium caeruleum can be propagated from seed or by cuttings and it responds well to pinching which encourages bushier growth and more flower production. It is also notable for its use in horticultural breeding programs where it has been cultivated to develop a variety of compact and floriferous forms suited for both garden use and commercial cut flower production.
