A Mysterious Bloom of Beauty and Power
The Datura flower, often called Angel’s Trumpet or Moonflower, belongs to the latter category. With its large, trumpet-shaped blossoms that unfurl in the evening, Datura is both enchanting and enigmatic a flower that has inspired awe, reverence, and caution for centuries.
Datura flowers are striking in their appearance. They can be white, yellow, pink, or violet, often glowing like lanterns under moonlight. Their blooms release a sweet fragrance at night, attracting moths and other pollinators. The flowers usually point downward like trumpets, creating a dramatic effect in any garden.
Datura has long been used in traditional medicine in carefully controlled amounts. In Ayurveda and folk practices, it was sometimes applied to relieve asthma, pain, and inflammation. However, it is also a toxic plant every part of it contains alkaloids that can be harmful if misused.
