The Enchanting Surprise Lily Flower
The Surprise Lily (Lycoris squamigera), also known as the Resurrection Lily or Magic Lily, is a flower that lives up to its whimsical name. It appears suddenly and almost mysteriously, delighting gardeners and passersby with its soft, graceful blooms.
The Surprise Lily earns its name from its unusual growing habit. For much of the year, its green leaves emerge in spring, only to wither away by summer. Then, when least expected, tall stalks rise from the bare ground, topped with clusters of delicate, pink, trumpet-shaped flowers. This sudden reappearance feels almost magical like a secret gift from the earth.
