in #photography3 days ago

Rosa ‘Ingrid Bergman’ is one of the most admired hybrid tea roses in the world, cherished for its timeless elegance, rich crimson blooms, and enduring association with classic beauty. Named in honor of the legendary Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, this rose variety embodies the grace, sophistication, and charisma that she was known for. Since its introduction, it has captivated gardeners, florists, and rose enthusiasts, earning a reputation as a rose of exceptional quality.
Origins and Breeding
Rosa ‘Ingrid Bergman’ was bred in Denmark in 1984 by the renowned rose breeders Pernille and Mogens Olesen of Poulsen Roser. This hybrid tea rose quickly rose to fame, not just for its exquisite appearance but also for its excellent performance in gardens. It was developed with a focus on strong color, robust health, and longevity, making it suitable both as a garden rose and as a cut flower for floral arrangements.
The rose received multiple awards, including the prestigious title of World’s Favorite Rose in 2000, a recognition bestowed by the World Federation of Rose Societies. This honor solidified its place as one of the most beloved roses worldwide.
Appearance and Characteristics
The standout feature of Rosa ‘Ingrid Bergman’ is its deep velvety red flowers, which exude a classic romantic charm. Each bloom is large and elegantly shaped, often with 30 to 40 petals that spiral into a refined high-centered form typical of hybrid tea roses. The flowers, when fully open, can reach up to 10 cm in diameter, making them truly eye-catching.
The foliage complements the blooms beautifully with its dark green, glossy leaves, which provide a striking contrast against the vibrant red flowers. The overall plant is upright and bushy, usually growing to about 80–100 cm in height, though under ideal conditions, it can grow taller.
One notable trait is the rose’s repeat-flowering ability. Rosa ‘Ingrid Bergman’ produces flushes of blooms from early summer through to autumn, ensuring a long season of enjoyment in the garden. The flowers also hold well on the plant and have an excellent vase life when cut, making them a florist’s favorite.
