The Dragon Li, also known as the Li Hua Mao, is a rare and ancient breed that carries with it the folklore and mystery of its homeland—China. Though not as internationally renowned as breeds like the Siamese or Persian, the Dragon Li is a natural treasure among feline enthusiasts and is regarded with cultural reverence in its country of origin.
Origins and History
The Dragon Li is one of the few naturally occurring domestic cat breeds believed to have originated in China. Unlike many cat breeds that are the result of selective breeding or crossbreeding over centuries, the Dragon Li evolved independently in the wilds of rural China. Its history is steeped in legend, and for many years, it was believed to be a domesticated form of the Chinese mountain cat, though modern science leans more toward it being a subspecies of the common domestic cat.
