Wow. This one arrests me. Not often that I've come across it in the right colour, either - since it happens to be a vehicle I have googled profusely trying to find out what it was called (only found out a short while ago). This very car features in a vision and story I wrote 15 yrs ago (set in Aragon, Spain) . I never understood why it (of all cars ) "featured" and so I took it as a research prompt and eventually discovered it was a Sonnett from the early seventies. Still none the wiser what it exactly - so precisely - was doing in my head, but interesting that it crops up again. So I too, am hoping this appeal for more information gives some results. Here's to waiting.
Sorry for the delay. This Car was the continuation of the Sonett I and the Sonett II, and these 2 were intended for racing. The Sonett III was more of an attempt to reach the consumer market, but suffered from bad timing as the Datsun 240Z hit the market in 1969 and the Opel GT in 1968, which had been delayed by GM to not compete with the new looks of the '68 Corvette Stingray (GT and Stingray designed/styled by the same folks and it shows). It is safe to assume that the 240Z was the end for both the GT and the Sonett.
There is a wikipedia page, but it doesn't give the in-depth information I'd like to see, but gives more than I have time for. In case you are interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_Sonett
Very interesting reply. Eventhough I do have access to google and even wikpedia - the dates and numbers are "significant" (think: dream signification) to my story for the way you worded them: it accentuates the failure of this car to reach the consumer market. The dates are the dates for the protagonists (which I had not noted before). A string of cars travel through the novel (time indicators?) and ends with a BMW Z4 (240Z made me think of that). It's all fascinating for me, since I know nothing about cars (only care about the seats).
Will we get to read this story set in Aragon? Got me curious.
