My open carry experience today. More videos and pictures coming soon.

in #police9 years ago (edited)

A black man with dreadlocks open carrying a pistol in a very crowded farmers market and within video recording distance of a police station. Reality T.V has got nothing on this. Guess how many times I was stopped by the police.

This is very interesting - fear of black people with guns is basically what led to the NRA becoming the political force it is today, with membership levels spiking drastically in post-civil rights era.

Cool juxtaposition - where the stereotype of an open-carry proponent is an angry, overweight, 50-year-old white dude, and def not a dreadlockrasta!

P.S. I fear for your safety, but support what you are doing! :-)

"The only thing we have to fear is fear it self" oh and spiders, good god spiders.

The NRA exists to oppose racist gun control laws that were designed to keep guns away from black people. The NRA has done more to help black people than the NAACP.

Not buying what you're slingin there Bub (aka @everittmickey). :-)

That might have been the case at one time, the NRA was afterall created by Yankee war veterans, including a NY Times reporter, who thought the Civil War dragged on too long, because the Northerners could not shoot as well as the Southerners. It was all about Marksmanship. And, the NRA was participated heavily in suggesting and supporting GUN CONTROL laws for most of its history.

BUT TODAY ..

Closely aligning itself with police energizes its overwhelmingly white member base, which provides the group with its political power. Right now, that base is scared that social change demanded by Black Lives Matter will come at the expense of whites’ own security and identity. The NRA has decided it must stay on its constituents side in a battle against what those millions believe is an existential threat, even when that means taking a pass on a fight for the gun rights principles it has sworn to protect.

You can believe what you want. It happens to be wrong.
Be that as it may. Carry a gun and encourage all of your friends to carry one too. Including your wife and older (old enough) children. Train them in the use of guns. It's the ethical thing to do. Everyone should be responsible for their OWN self defense.

Remember...when seconds count...the police are only minutes away.

thank god, because those the mfers be killing people :)

Who? The cops you mean? Yeah. That IS a problem.
They do seem to be depicted as being rather trigger happy lately.

(shrug)
If you live in a civilized state people expect you to be responsible and look out for yourself. That includes preparing for your own self defense. That would mean that you are armed. Why be a burden to society and depend on someone else to protect you? As long as don't act stupid why should anyone be concerned if you have a gun or not?

People are MUCH more polite in an armed society. More guns less crime.

It's a win win situation.

People are MUCH more polite in an armed society. More guns less crime.

Yes, gangs are always so overly polite to each other!

Gangs would not exist if we legalized guns and drugs. They wouldn't be able to make money anymore. @telos If you have never lived in an area with high crime and gang activity please refrain from speaking on the issue.

And now you're reduced to ad hominem. So remind me again how a subcommunity who well armed is "polite" while constantly shooting each other?

I assume you'll legalize kidnapping people and forcing them into prostitution, so that there's no illegal activities gangs could fight over?

Interesting. You try to shut me up, then you flag me... It's almost like you know I'm right and can't come up with a cogent argument...

Yes they are. You DO have a point and you are correct. Gang members are VERY polite to each other. Have you not seen the "GodFather"?
