I gotta disagree with Trump on posting an image of him posing as the Pope

in #politics3 months ago

I am not a religious person at all. My family went to church a bit when I was a kid but we were not "religious" about it. I think that we did it out of some sort of social pressure and because that was where you met people for socializing afterwards and the church portion of it was just the price of admission to get to the fun stuff afterwards.

My family was never religious and I don't even know if anyone has a bible anywhere in their houses. I'm not anti-religion for the most part though, I just never really needed it in my life.

That being said, I do have a certain amount of respect for Catholicism even though I am quite certain there are some rather nasty things that go on inside of their ranks.

I frequently disagree with a lot of the criticism that Trump gets online because I see it as it doesn't really matter what the guy does, there is an army of TDS people out there that are going to have a problem with literally anything that he does. Because of this constant assault by his political enemies, I'm a bit desensitized to all of it and well, liberal blowhards out there, you are to blame for this. Every politician does some not so great things, they wouldn't be politicians if that wasn't the case, but to simply oppose everything that he does simply because he does it suggests to me that the critics out there don't really have any sort of ideas about what they would like to have done, but instead simply are going to oppose anything and everything that Trump does because Trump is Trump.

That, in my mind, is extremely stupid.

However, I draw the line and putting up a meme that is kind of mocking one of the most revered positions in the world especially right after the man died.

I like memes as much as the next guy, and I can appreciate some good trolling as well but to me this just seems really disrespectful for a guy that was invited to sit in the front row of the Pope's funeral.

I think that an apology would be in order here but I believe we all know that this isn't going to happen as he seems to take a bit of pride in getting under people's skin and isn't going to stop doing it.

I mean, if he did apologize the media would simply attack him for that anyway so why bother?

Of course the media jumped all over this and it was everywhere so I kind of wonder if he is doing this on purpose just to stay on the news at all times.

I do agree with most of what he is doing as a leader though and am not at all surprised when everything that he tries to get done is met with court injunctions or whatever they are called.

I don't like when politicians pretend to be these noble and pure characters that we all know they are not and I believe that Trump was pretending in the past when he stood with religious leaders during prayer. So in a way I kind of enjoy the authenticity of being a jerk every now and then but in my mind, this was too far and I don't think that a lot of his supporters can get behind this and say "there's no problem with that."

I am definitely capable of being critical of a person that I support and I believe that blindly following everything that any politician does and praising it is really lame. This is true with celebrities or rock-stars or anyone else that has a platform as well. If you are religious, I believe this is called "idol worship" and basically any religion says that is a bad thing.

Go ahead and attack me, but I thought this was in poor taste.
