TRUMP SUPPORTS MUST KEEP QUIET

RAVELRY.COM BANS SUPPORT FOR TRUMP

Over the weekend while scrolling through Twitter, I came across a retweet from Ravelry banning all support of President Trump. According to Ravelry, "This includes support in the form of forum posts, projects, patterns, profiles, and all other content."

Ravelry is free to enact it's own policy, that really doesn't bother me so much, even though I believe it to be discriminatory. The part that is exceedingly offensive is the statement that, "We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy."

You are obviously not supportive of all if you exclude all President Trump supporters, and more importantly, it is absolutely false that support for the Trump administration is support for white supremacy. I am a Trump supporter, and I abhor white supremacy groups. They are vile, small-minded, and hateful. No one that I personally know who is a Trump supporter are any of those things. The Trump supporters I talk to, follow, and interact with online are none of those things. Many, yes many, are Black, Hispanic, and LGBT. If you want to ban white supremacy groups spewing hate and garbage, you would receive a great deal of support from Trump supporters. Furthermore, I have never heard President Trump say or do anything racist or otherwise in support of white supremacy. Most Trump supporters support Trump because of the following:

1. His tax cuts have enlarged paychecks.
2. His reduction of bureaucratic red tap has allowed small business to thrive, including African American owned small businesses.
3. His administration has created jobs for everyone, and the unemployment in the Black community is at its lowest point in history. Hispanic-American, Asian-American, and women unemployment are also at record lows.
4. He championed the bipartisan criminal justice reform bill.
5. He inherited a horrible border crises. Detention centers were up and running long before President Trump. President Trump, through the threat of tariffs, was able to sign an agreement with Mexico to reduce the flow of illegal immigration through the southern border. It is not racist to want border security, it is prudent.
6. 3.9 million Americans lifted off food stamps.
7. Signed Right-to-Try legislation.
8. Withdrew the healthcare mandate (Health insurance premiums should be more than your mortgage payment. If they are, you should have a choice whether or not to buy.)

Trump supports want everyone to have freedom, opportunity, safety and security. It is unjust and petty to allow your own hatred for one man to cloud reason and good judgement. Unfortunately, the folks at Ravelry have shown themselves to be sheeple rather than individual free thinkers. Nevertheless, carry on. Free speech and free expression are ideals I believe in, even when I don't agree with you.
