Everyone starts with a curiosity; the cosmic microwave background

Did you know that one of the biggest mysteries in the universe was solved by cleaning pigeon poop? In the 1960s, two scientists at Bell Laboratories, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, were working on a huge radio antenna to capture very, very weak signals from space.

Everything seemed to be going well, except for one small detail, they kept hearing a constant noise, a happy background hum that seemed to come from all directions in the sky and they couldn't eliminate it, they checked the cables, the devices, the location of the antenna and nothing, they were in the middle of the cold war, so they came to think, "What if it's something military that they haven't told us about? Secret tests that anticipate the launch of something big.

But no, it was not human at all, suddenly they found a clue, there were pigeons on the antenna and with them a lot of pigeon excrement, they cleaned thoroughly, they scared away the lovely birds and since they already had the fly behind their ear, they listened very attentively again to see if the problem had finally been solved. But the noise was still there imperturbable, uniform, as if it came from everywhere, as if it came at the same time from all corners of the cosmos.

What they did not know was that they had just heard the birth of the universe, that noise was not a failure, it was a signal, an echo, the so-called Levic Pangang fossil radiation or cosmic microwave background, the remaining heat of the great explosion that gave rise to everything that exists.

Years later, Penzias and Wilson received the Nobel Prize in physics, one of the keys to the origin of the universe, discovered thanks to two geniuses and several shitty pigeons who drove them crazy.
