In my opinion we are at a point similar to where Jules Verne was around 1865 when he published the novel From the Earth to the Moon. This story around the moon in 1870 also had a sequel. By the way, it was science fiction, yes, but Jules Verne put in there some very good successes for the time, extraordinarily good for the time, practically visionary.
He got the launch site right, he placed the Columbia canyon in Florida, very close to where the Kennedy Space Center is currently located, the crew also got the number right, they imagined three astronauts aboard the capsule, the same number that traveled on the Apollo mission.
The splashdown, this is quite impressive, the characters of the novel return to Earth and fall into the ocean where they are rescued by the United States Navy, just as happened with the crew of Apollo in a field, on dry land, on a beach, somewhere solid, not in the sea, and yet Jules Verne put the return of that ship in the sea.
He also guessed that the nation that had the capacity to do that feat was the United States. It could have targeted Russia, but it had those two. He also used to talk a lot about China, about the potential it had in others in other writings.
Another thing that got it right is the size, both the capsule and the shape, as well as the size, were similar to those of the Apollo 11 command module, it is also that in some movies it seems that they land, but they do not land. in the novel they do not land on the moon. They only go around the Moon once and in the end with a carom they manage to return to Earth.
He also got it right in the use of rockets to slow down and modify the trajectory of the capsule, all of these things were proposed by Jules Verne practically in the middle of the 19th century, the space trip to the moon was still a long way off and yet he pointed out a lot of details that in the end he got right and served as inspiration for the travelers who made the trip to the moon and it is the same thing that we can be doing now, thinking about what it could be like, giving ideas, giving inspiration so that when it happens, whoever develops it already has some of the work done.
Imagination is important, there are still many years to travel to another star, but as I have said many times, right now we can lay the foundations to make that possible.
