BYD's ultra-fast charging challenges Tesla

With the announcement, Tesla shares fell 5%.

Imagine arriving at an electric charging station, plugging in your electric car, going to the bathroom, grabbing a coffee and returning with 400 km of autonomy in 5 minutes, BYD BLADE has just announced an ultra-fast charging system that promises to exceed even the time of a gasoline refill and this novelty is already shaking the market, literally Tesla shares fell almost 5% on the day of the announcement.

Called 1 MW Flash chargers according to BYD BLADE has the capacity to provide a 400 km charge in just 5 minutes, this is possible thanks to the combination of latest generation silicon carbide chips, ultra-high voltage up to 1500 V and an internal architecture developed to handle intense electrical currents, maintenance efficiency and safety, according to the company this system is compatible with its most recent models such as the Han ev and the Tang ev and represents the closest step to making charging as fast as traditional gasoline supply.

The new chargers are powered by the Blade battery made of lithium iron phosphate, considered one of the safest and most durable on the market. Tesla even adopted this battery in some of its models, which demonstrates the impact of the technology and to guarantee reliability the company carried out extensive tests focused on thermal safety and overload control, which could make this system a pair of waters and the expansion of the electrical infrastructure.

The company promises great expansion.

Behind the scenes, BYD BLADE's intelligent system automatically adjusts charging based on the model and status of the vehicle's battery. This intelligence optimizes charging time without compromising cell performance and life, with algorithms capable of predicting demand peaks, ambient temperature and even the driver's usage profile.

BYD BLADE intends to install more than 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations in China in the coming years, with international expansion plans. In addition to the premium models of up to $40,000, the company also offers the SIGO, a compact electric car that costs the equivalent of $12,000 in China. BLADE is moving beyond being just a Tesla competitor and becoming a true global powerhousel.

But could it be that this almost instantaneous charging is the push that was missing to retire gas stations once and for all, or could it be that there is still a long way and battery life to go.
