Volkswagen enters the autonomous robotaxi race

And it's not just a futuristic prototype.

Volkswagen promises that you will be able to get on a Ban ID Buzz that moves alone through the streets of your city, without a driver, without a steering wheel, but with all the community that is expected of a Premium transport, and to achieve this it is launching the brand's first fully autonomous robotaxi, which already has a date to begin circulating.

It is a real offensive to confront giants like Tesla and Waymo, competing to see who will dominate the streets with fleets of self-driving vehicles, unlike adapting a common car to work without a driver, the ID Buzz was designed from the beginning as an autonomous ban, created by Moia, Volkswagen's mobility division, it was a combination of state-of-the-art hardware and artificial intelligence.

How does a vehicle like this stay safe in the midst of urban chaos,

There are 27 sensors distributed throughout the chassis, cameras, lidar and radars that create a 360º vision. This vision feeds the bus's brain, making decisions in real time, reacting to obstacles and planning routes on its own, all of this with level four autonomy, that is, it can really make the entire trip without anyone touching the steering wheel.

The ID Buzz uses the Moia mobility platform as a service that integrates each ban into an intelligent fleet management center. If something unforeseen arises, the system can monitor, intervene or even stop the vehicle instantly.

Operators receive full training, route simulators and real-time support to ensure everything works as expected, and for those who climb aboard, the experience is nothing like a cold, robotic transport, the interior is luxurious with synthetic wood flooring, ample legroom and a boarding system that unlocks the doors from your cell phone.

Volkswagen's strategy goes beyond a pretty vehicle, the ID Buzz is not intended for the individual consumer, but for cities, public transport companies and partners like Uber. Hamburg has already confirmed the use of the bus as part of public transportation, while Los Angeles will be the gateway to the North American market.

The promise is clear, to offer clean, fully electric and autonomous mobility, capable of serving urban neighborhoods, rural areas, even large centers with greater flexibility than traditional buses or taxis. Of course, like any connected technology, there are risks, one of them is cyber security, which has now become a central issue.

After all, like protecting a robot taxi connected 24 hours a day. With a release date set for 2026, ID Buzz promises to accelerate the global race for autonomous mobility. We can only wait and see how all this will play out in the coming years.
