PotjieKos - Proudly South African Food
Yesterday we had an activity where different groups of people needed to make a Potjie.
There were 6 pots in total.
- The ladies (Relief society)
- The men (Elders Quorum)
- The adults (Sunday School)
- The children (Primary)
- The youth (Young men and woman)
- The Muller family
All were very good, we tried each Potjie and were really impressed.
However there can only be one winner.

Some back round on Potjiekos:
This is a traditional South African form of cooking. The word Potjiekos means small pot of food. We make the food in a cast iron 3 legged pot over the coals. You cook it for a few hours starting with your onions, oil and meat. After the meat is browned we add liquid like water, stock or even rooibos tea. Next we add our hard vegetables like carrots, potatoes and millies (Corn). About 45min before the food is ready we add the remaining vegetables mushrooms, patty pans, zucchinis and anything you would like. Depending on how you like your sauce you add a thickener we like using cream.
In celebration of our Heritage weekend we having some proudly South African food like this Potjiekos and tomorrow a Braai.
Looking forward to sharing some of our cooking tips. # Raksha
It' looks so good!! Se ve muy bueno ! Es como un estofado. Aqui en mi país sería mas como una carne guisada.
Thank you, it was very good. Similar to stew but the meat is a lot softer than stew...
Welcome
