RE: Random Games Week 12- "Your Childhood Books!", brought to us by @kristyglas
I was all ready to hit the 'buy' button before I started reading the comments! They were really eye-opening! SO many huge fans of her books making negative comments about the revised versions. Apparently they changed some names and 'British' references, as well as abridging one of the books. I came back to warn other people who might have been as intrigued as I was to read them!
I also use Bookfinder.com, a very good resource for old and out-of-print books. They had the 2012 and 2014 sets. Then I looked for first editions and then hardbound. If you have those then you really do have a 'treasure trove'! They are worth serious money now!
My favorite children's books (as a child) was my mother's collection of The Mother West Wind books by Thornton Burgess. They were lost in a move. My husband collects rare books and he went on a mission to find me a set, which he did, and bought another set for my mother!
I also loved the 'rainbow' fairy tales. But I only got interested in the classics when I was an adult! The Oz books, Alice in Wonderland, The Boxcar Children, can't remember all of them now, but I enjoyed them so much.
Thank you for bringing up these good memories, and giving me a new author to search for!
Wow.. luckily you didn't hit the Buy button! That would have been a bummer. Oh I have heard of Bookfinder.com. I need to check which years are mine. But I think mine is in the 80s. Thanks for letting me know. Ah, I have not heard of The Mother West Wind books, I will check them out :)
Hehe.. yah.. As I grew up, I enjoyed classics like Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, etc. Those gave a lot of aaaahh moments :)
Thanks for giving me a new author to search for too! :) You have a good weekend there @donna-metcalfe :)
