Children discipline in my country
Introduction |
---|
A child could and of course always does something wrong and we Nigerians believe in the phrase "spare the rod and spoil the child" which we actually do the opposite. Oh! We definitely do not spare the rod, so that the child will not be spoilt,
I'd say it helps, but not in all cases, since there is a tendency for one to abuse his or her power of correcting a child through physical discipline. Well, I don't want to talk about child abuse, that's a topic for another day.
What happened? I know you would ask, so this is what happened, that caused me to laugh.
The whole Story... |
---|
On a Sunday evening after the days activities, my family and I lay to rest, we were just talking about what happened that day. As we were about to retire to bed, We heard three children crying and shouting, now it is a cause of alarm in some countries when children yell like that, but over here in Nigeria, trust me, no one is getting hurt.
We all went through such things as children, and I'd say we came out strong and better. it's a way our parents show us they love us and do not want us to go astray. But if these beatings are done too much, it'll be of concern to everybody.
So back to the story, we heard children crying and screaming in the next house, they must have done something terrible, because their parents were shouting on them, I could here hurt in their mothers voice when she was scolding them. But then she said something funny that made us laugh, here's what said;
"I have not touched you and you're crying, if I want to beat you ehn, you'll not be able to cry".
It was funny because she already beat these children and they were seriously crying, yet she was promising them the real beating, I wonder how the real beating will look like,😄 it was funny.
Though this may not be funny, but I just realized that we all have our different methods and ways of discipline. My country's may be different from yours and yours from another, either way each method of discipline works for us.
Because the very next day after the night of beatings, this same woman held her children's hands and teased them, made them promise not to do what they did again, bought things for them and told them she loved them, and these children were smiling through out that day after a night of beating.
in Conclusion |

In conclusion, Parents should love their children, no matter what, even the most unstable human being on earth as far as he or she is a parent, loves their child, they might show it in a weird way, but trust me its love.

I refuse to accept hitting as an act or expression of love. Hitting is simply violence. They are not a punishment or a method of education. It is bodily harm. Nothing less. Doing this to a kid is all the worse - he or she can't even theoretically fight back. You say it's common in this manner. You say it didn't damage you. You say... Nothing that would dissuade me from my conviction: when parents hit a child, I see perpetrators and victims, not a family.
Friend I understand your point, but in some instances when a child do what is wrong or something terrible you as the parent give the child a serious warning not to try that same act again next time then it is your duty to promise the child if he or she repeat that same act that will him or her to a certain punishment as the results of disobedience.
Then after that strong warning you gave the child if he or she purposely do that same terrible act is your duty to take action on the child either beating or give them any punishment that will make them cry, That is what the called discipline.
