Are rare and valuable retro video games a collectible or an investment?

Collecting retro games went strange route in the last years, people started buying because they think they can sell for more rather than buying to collect or to play. Some games that aren't even rare get sold at +$1000 these days.
I'm not a collector (I don't have the money) but I can feel the hard time real collectors have. Oh, and according to the post, thinking of retro games as investment is't good idea, there are better things to invest in.

This Emulator for old Adventure Games has been ported to the Nintendo Switch, homebrew creators really amaze me. I'm pretty sure that the official PC/Steam version of IHNMAIMS uses the same Emulator.

I heard about Unreal Tournament before but I never looked it up until today!! It's amazing (from that 1999 release year perspective.) The other games mentioned are great too and I would pt them in my list. Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil & Mario Kart.
