Do you believe in having rules

in #rules17 hours ago

Last week one of the customer who rented my holiday home, had a complaint. He told me that I have too many rules laid down. In return I asked him a simple question, please let me know which of my rules are not practical and bringing a hinderance to your fun factor. He did not give me any reply to that. Yes, I do have a page full of rules, which has some clear practical do's and dont's.

He told me when people come on holiday they do not like to follow any rules. Yes, may be correct, but that does not mean that they can do anything. If I will not put rules then they may do any crazy thing at my holiday home and leave it in a mess. Basically my rules are around some of the personal things, that should not be attempted to open, children should not be left unsupervised, music volume after a certain hour at night time should be reduced to not disturb the neighbors, mindfully consume alcohol and no smoking inside the home.

I know of people who give their holiday homes on rent and people misuse it to an extent that it is filthy to even watch, sometime even damaging the property. Even if I take security deposit or recover the damaged item money, it is a big hassle for me to get things back in place, and if I have a back to back customer it impacts my business as well. So for me to have rules is very important. Holiday does not mean any madness can be done.

Even when we go to a hotel or a resort there are set of rules to follow, and if we do not follow then there is a penalty. I tell my clients the same thing, in return some times some mad people also tell me, that the hotel is a different thing, and a holiday home is different. I do not understand how different it is. To be very honest, whenever some one rents my place, at the back of my mind I am always hoping that my place is used in a decent manner. Especially the younger crowd, they get drunk and then they do not know how to manage themselves. My caretaker always tell me that when the guests comes, they are always very well behaved, but once they get drunk then their true colors come out...haha.

Yes, people can behave very mad when they are not in senses and also destructive. If my caretaker observes any such harmful behavior then we ask the guests to leave our property immediately.

I believe that rules are needed everywhere, just for e.g. if there are no traffic rules then there will major accidents on every road of the city. If there are no rules in a office place or a school then there will be no discipline of time. Rules do bring some order and stability and it also makes people responsible for their behavior. Some times they are for our good ensuring our safety and protection.

Your house, your rules. Nobody is forced to rent your home for holidays. It's a great offer from your side and you have to care for your own interest.
