SLC25-W1 // "Caesar Salad"

It is my delight to take part in this contest and I want to appreciate @dasudi for this shared knowledge, I want to share my entry to this contest.

Ingredients

  • romaine lettuce
  • croutons
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Egg
  • vinegar
  • Carrot
  • Cucumber

For the dressing :

  • Mayonnaise
  • Soy sauce
  • Mustard
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Lime juice
  • Garlic juice
  • salt to taste

To make caesar salad, I went to market to buy some ingredients I didn't have at home.

I got all the ingredients ready, then I began my preparation by making the croutons with bread, I trimmed the bread and cut it into cubes.

I add the bread cubes to a heated pan and toast untill golden brown. Then set it aside

Next, I washed and chopped the lettuce, then add 3 tablespoons of vinegar, I allow it for some minutes then I drained it using a sieve and set aside for the salad preparation.

I dice carrots and cucumber then add all of it to a bowl, boiled eggs, peeled it and set it aside then proceeded to make the dressing

Making the dressing

In a bowl I added mayonnaise, soy sauce, mustard, Parmesan cheese, milk, lime juice, garlic juice, pepper and salt to taste then whisk it till it is smooth and creamy then set it aside.

To prepare the salad

  1. In a clean bowl, I added the lettuce and croutons

  2. I sprinkled cheese over it and added cucumber and carrots

  3. I poured the dressing over the salad and toss it gently until properly mixed.

I finally sprinkled boiled egg white on the salad and chilled it for some minutes and it was ready to be consumed.

Caesar Salad

Did you prepare the recipe taught in the course or improvise one of your own? Tell us about the flavor of your salad? Did it meet your expectations?

I didn't prepare exactly what was done in the course, I added some ingredients. As for the flavour it was really nice, it was actually crispy, the milk flavour gave it a unique taste. The fresh lettuce paired with the sweetness of carrots and cucumber made it so crunchy. My homemade croutons added another pleasant crunchy taste that makes it a top notch.

My dressing was rich and creamy, the addition of the lime juice gave it a real taste I was expecting. It has that classic Caesar flavors but with a local twist that made it taste both familiar and new to me as it is my first time. The pepper and salt helped me eat the salad comfortably without the feelings of nausea. As of the egg, it helped balanced the veggies perfectly.

Generally, the taste was nice, it was my first time using soy sauce but I think I like the flavour and the taste, it gives my dressing a pleasant taste.

Did it meet my expectations?

Absolutely it does, I will definitely make it again, it's a perfect meal to add to my diet as I'm always on diet control to check my weight.

  • Lettuce

It has different varieties and has lots of health benefits, if you consume it fresh, it has lot of health benefits such as;

  1. Low calories: which makes it perfect for weight management.

  2. Rich in vitamins: all greenish plant contains Vitamins and this one has;

  • Vitamin A which is good for eyesight

  • Vitamin K which supports the bone health and also prevent blood clotting.

  • Folate which is very important for cell function and tissue growth.

  1. Hydration: the high level of water content in it, helps the body stay hydrated.

  2. Fiber: it has high level of fiber which supports digestion and gut health.

And lots more.....


  • Croutons

It is usually made from toasted or baked bread, sometimes seasoned. It should be consumed in moderation.

  1. It's a source of carbohydrates so it gives energy.

  2. Makes salads more satisfying, encouraging consumption of nutrient-dense greens.

  3. Depending on the bread used, it has it's own vitamins and minerals based on the ingredients used to make the bread.


  • Parmesan Cheese

It has a very sweet flavour and tastes made from cow milk. It has a lot of benefits as well as lots of calories

  1. Rich in protein, as it is produced from cow milk, its helps in muscle repair and body building.

  2. Rich in calcium which makes it perfect for strong bones and teeth.

  3. It contains Vitamin B12 and zinc which helps in supporting immune functions.

  4. Even though it is produced from milk, it has lower lactose content, which makes it easier for digest for

Do you have any special tips for making this salad? Share them.

  1. When making the croutons, your fire should be very low to avoid burning the bread.

  2. Endeavour to wash properly and drain all the veggies.

  3. All ingredients should be used moderately so it can gives us a healthy nutrients.

  4. If you are allergic to fresh taste and smell of some plant, remember to sprinkle pepper to your salad to avoid nausea and vomiting.

Truly, time was invested in making this plate of goodness called caesar salad and I like how it came out looking crispy and healthy. Adding egg white will definitely give it that soft texture in the mouth.
