God's Anointing

Exodus 29:1-9

And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow them, to minister unto me in the priest's office: Take one young bullock, and two rams without blemish, Vs 1
And unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened tempered with oil, and wafers unleavened anointed with oil: of wheaten flour shalt thou make them. Vs 2
And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bullock and the two rams. Vs 3
And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water. Vs 4
And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat, and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the curious girdle of the ephod: Vs 5
And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre. Vs 6
Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him. Vs 7
And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them. Vs 8
And thou shalt gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and put the bonnets on them: and the priest's office shall be theirs for a perpetual statute: and thou shalt consecrate Aaron and his sons. Vs 9

Ecclesiastes 9:8

Let your garments always be white, and let your head lack no oil.

The word "Anointing" literally means to apply "ointment" or "oil" to something to make it work better with greater freedom. The word anointing or anoint occurs in the Bible with particular reference to the building of the tabernacle and temple and also in the prophetic utterances.

It is God's supernatural energy released through the help of the Holy Spirit upon His ministers (servant) to demonstrate God's power through the gospel.

Note that anointing is a divine enablement and outflow of the Holy Spirit through human vessels (ministers). It is much more than the Holy Ghost baptism. We can receive God's anointing via Direct Impartation: here we must work it out on our own through biblical principles.

Luke 4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, Vs 18
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Vs 19

Anointing comes in the place of :

• Prophecy
• Preaching
• Healing
• In the sacred altar (home, church, office etc)
• In the word of God

Anointing Symbolizes :

• Equipment for service
• Divine authority
• Divine effect
• Divine favour
• It helps in knowing and understanding God and His word
• Goals and purpose

Requirements for receiving God's anointing

• Receiving the call (Moses)
• Positive response to the call
• Perceiving a need
• Having intimacy with the Holy Spirit
• Paying the price as in:
• Hungry and thirsty for Him
• Fervent prayers
• Obedience
• Death to self
• Fasting

It is worthy to note that before God's visitation upon the life of Moses, he was a fugitive and a wanderer in the wilderness. But when God's anointing came upon him, he became God's spokesman, a terror to Pharaoh and a leader in Israel. Anointing is absolutely necessary for fruitful Christian living. David's anointing made him a lion, bear and giant killer.

God in the Holy Scriptures has promised to release the power upon mankind to manifest His power, glory and wisdom. As a result He is not partial or selective to those who will receive the anointing.

True anointing is not easy to come by, your attitude determines your altitude.

The sensitive to God's anointing is a thirsting craving and a longing heart.

Prayer

Lord help me to be sensitive to your anointing. Help me to have a thirsting craving and longing heart for your anointing.

Reflection

Anointing is absolutely necessary for fruitful Christian living.
