WARNING!!!: Arbitrage Scam Impersonating Bitget – I Lost 39,259 STEEM

in #scam2 months ago

Hello Steemit community,

I want to share a very unfortunate experience I recently went through, in hopes of warning others and seeking support from the Steemit team.

A few weeks ago, I joined a Telegram group that claimed to offer a safe arbitrage opportunity between HIVE and STEEM. The group was well-organized and seemed to be affiliated with Bitget Exchange. They guided me through a process where I purchased cryptocurrency from MEXC, then sent HIVE tokens to a wallet and expected to receive STEEM in return.

As instructed, I sent 39,259.200 STEEM to a wallet named @bitgethive on the STEEM network, believing it was owned by Bitget.

After days of no response and no STEEM returned, I contacted Bitget support directly. They confirmed that:
• They do not own the account @bitgethive on STEEM.
• They only operate bitgethive on the HIVE network.
• There have been multiple impersonation scams recently using their name on the STEEM blockchain.

You can find their official statement about this scam here:

I also contacted MEXC Exchange, who confirmed that the transaction was successful but could not assist further. They did, however, mention that the address might have already been flagged by the STEEM team.

📌 My main requests:
1. I kindly ask the Steemit team to review and investigate the @bitgethive account on the STEEM blockchain.
2. If possible, freeze or restrict access to this fraudulent account to prevent further scams.
3. Help warn the community so others don’t fall for similar schemes.

I have all the screenshots, blockchain transactions, and support messages from Bitget and MEXC to prove this case. I’m happy to share more if needed.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If anyone else has experienced something similar, please speak up — we may be able to take action together.

Stay safe,
Jairo
