Does taking Tylenol during pregnancy cause autism?

For context, this is a question I answered on Quora

No, and its association is even weaker than trace amounts of thirmosal and much of it is statistical noise that can only be properly vetted with twin studies, which is what you would do if you actually wanted to parse out the link between certain toxins and inter-generational developmental disorders like ASD. Acetaminophen is a hepatotoxin, but only at high doses and/or after chronic useage so any genotoxicity would be highly unlikely at the recommend dosage. It’s also not an endocrine disruptor with occasional use so the path for it to create or worsen inter-generational developmental disorders isn’t clear.
