If anyone had any doubts that humanoid robots will eventually become as much a part of our lives as automobiles have become, today's news will dispel all such uncertainty. On August 8, China opened what is considered the world's first humanoid robot megastore, called Robot Mall, located in Beijing's E-Town technology district. This space successfully brings robotics from the laboratory to everyday life and commerce, with the goal of making the acquisition, use, and maintenance of humanoid robots commonplace.

China inauguró pasado el 8 de agosto la que se considera la primera megatienda de robots humanoides del mundo, llamada Robot Mall y situada en el distrito tecnológico Beijing E-Town en Pekín. Con este espacio se consigue trasladar la robótica desde el laboratorio a la vida cotidiana y comercial, con el objetivo de hacer común la adquisición, uso y mantenimiento de robots humanoides.
Robot Mall has 4,000 m2 spread across four floors. Like car dealerships, the store offers direct sales, spare parts, support, hands-on demonstrations, and feedback gathering for product improvements. The main floor hosts robot demonstrations in sectors such as industry and healthcare, with notable models such as the Unitree G1, UBTECH Walker S, and Tiangong. The second level includes interactive experiences with devices such as brain-machine interfaces and robotic arms. The third floor is dedicated to diagnostics, parts replacement, and remote maintenance, and the fourth floor is a space for professional B2B negotiations.
Robot Mall cuenta con 4,000 m2 repartidos en cuatro plantas, al igual que los concesionarios de autos, la tienda ofrece venta directa, repuestos, soporte, demostraciones prácticas y recogida de feedback para mejorar los productos. En la planta principal se realizan demostraciones de robots en sectores como la industria y la salud, con modelos destacados como Unitree G1, UBTECH Walker S y Tiangong. El segundo nivel incluye experiencias interactivas con dispositivos como interfaces cerebro-máquina y brazos robóticos. La tercera planta está dedicada a diagnóstico, reposición de piezas y mantenimiento remoto y la cuarta es un espacio para negociaciones B2B profesionales.

This supermarket sells more than 100 robots, from more than 40 Chinese brands such as Ubtech Robotics, Unitree Robotics, and other emerging manufacturers. All of them are functional robots that perform practical everyday tasks such as dispensing medicine, serving coffee or drinks in a bar, handling cash registers in a warehouse, housework, making pancakes, painting, and more. You'll even find robots that play soccer, chess, or move like robotic dogs.

There's also a themed restaurant area where robots cook, serve, and perform in groups, serving as an experimental platform to both showcase the technology and collect real-world data on interactions with each other and customers. This large supermarket was launched alongside the World Robot Conference 2025 and is part of a national technological development agenda in which China has injected billions of dollars in robotics subsidies this past year and plans to establish a 1 trillion yuan (approximately $137 billion USD) investment fund for AI and robotics startups.

Advanced humanoids, especially for businesses, can cost hundreds of thousands of euros, although you may recall that a few days ago we wrote about the $6,000 Unitree R1 robot on this blog. Sales typically include installation, training, and technical support.

But not everything is perfect; the robots still have notable technical limitations and sometimes require human intervention to reboot the software. To some extent, the store is more of a spectacular showcase than a mass-adoption platform, but there's no doubt it's a harbinger of what's to come. The megastore aims to make the purchase and use of humanoid robots as commonplace as buying a car. Furthermore, the model includes surveys and user data collection to continuously improve the design and functionality.
Pero no todo es perfecto, los robots aún tienen limitaciones técnicas notables y a veces necesitan intervención humana para reiniciar el software.
