My brother and I

I can remember what happened last year October. I was just in my room resting that day, when my younger brother came in, looking so excited. He said he wanted to buy a second-hand phone from one guy in our area. I asked him, “Are you sure this phone is good? You trust the guy?” He said yes, that the phone was working fine and the guy was his close friend.

I tried to talk to him. I told him to wait, let me help him check it well or even go with him to a proper phone shop. But he didn’t listen. He said I was worrying too much about him and that he had already made up his mind to buy the phone. However,I felt somehow. I was angry, but I didn’t want to argue too much with him. So I just kept quiet.

Later that afternoon, he went and bought the phone. He came back smiling and happy, showing the phone to everyone. I just looked at him and said, “Okay it's nice.” But inside me, I was not really happy. I knew something was not right with that phone.

Two days passed. The phone just stopped working, the screen went blank. It refused to turn on. He tried all the means, but it didn't worked. He went back to that guy, and the guy said that nothing was wrong with the phone when he handed over to him. No refund, no help. My brother came home really sad angry and confused.

That was when I got really upset. Not just because of the money he lost, but because he didn’t listen to me at first. Well,, i didn’t shout. I just told him, “This is why I always tells you to think well before you do things.” He kept quiet. I really saw the regret and sadness in his eyes with tears.

However,on the other hand, I was really angry, yes, but also sad at the same time about what had happened. Surely,I wanted to protect him from buying that second hand phone, Which is sometimes 30% good and 70% bad. But well,he didn’t listened to me at that moment Which he would have listened. However, I just took a very deep breath inside telling myself, “It’s okay. He has really learn the hard way.”

Some days later, I told him, “Next time, try talk to me first and listen. I just care about you.” He told me he is sorry about not listening to me. That moment really touched me. I have simply realised that sometimes, people won’t always listen or care—even when we’re trying to help them in one thing or the other. But anyway anyhow we still have to be there for them when things gone wrong as they planned.

So Now, anytime he wants to buy something, he always comes to me first. We do laugh about that phone story sometimes, but it taught us both a big lesson. For me, it was about having patience with someone. For him, it was about listening.

Life it's not really easy. Sometimes we will be angry, sometimes we can feel like giving up. But in the end, we still just have to take a breath… and carry on.
