RE: Buying Junk Silver: Journey to 1,000 OZ
I like junk silver! It's in small increments, so it's likely that it could be useful in bartering. It's also relatively cheap in the USA. I can get it for just above melt price at one of the local coin stores.
It seems like the prices at silvergoldbull are a bit high. $23.50 CAD would be around $18 US which is around $12.75 USD per $1 in face value. It's not terrible, but I would see if there is a lower price. You might even be better off ordering from a US site and having it shipped there. It depends on a lot of factors, including where you're located and how much you're going to get. My opinion is that it's a good direction to look at going though, at least for some of your 1,000 ounces.
Yeah, I just called a local silver shop and they told me that they would charge me spot price! I was like what? Most online sites charge a premium!
Not to mention, online shops make me pay shipping. The only problem is that the local shop has none right now.
Fortunately my local shop owner said he gets more all the time and I can call back later this week and I should be able to fill my order ($10 - 15 face).
So I agree, Silvergoldbull.ca is expensive for "junk" silver, but then again they have some now, and my local place doesn't. Oh well, as they say, good things come to those who wait.
