Social Network - Swarm
In 2021, I decided to try out another social media app, this social media app is called Swarm. It was previously known as Foursquare Swarm. After upgrading my phone, I thought it would be a good time to explore other apps on Google Play. I quickly realized it was more than just a simple check-in tool.
Swarm began as an extension of Foursquare City Guide. In addition, it shares many features, that are found on Yelp. This app allows users to check in to various locations, post pictures, and rate establishments, making it a great way to keep track of places an individual has visited. One of its standout features is the ability to create lists, either of places a person has already visited, or spots he or she plan to visit - much like Yelp's list-making function.
At the same time, Swarm goes beyond just ratings and lists. Users can also leave tips for others, similar to how Yelp allows users to share their experiences, recommendations, and tips. Additionally, Swarm integrates well with other social media, enabling users to share their check-ins directly to platforms like Facebook and Twitter/X.
One thing, I noticed is that Swarm offers the option to connect with friends, whether from user's phone contact list, or Facebook, similar to Yelp. However, unlike Yelp, this app does not allow users create custom usernames or personalized URLs. This small difference gives Yelp a personalized touch. Nevertheless, Swarm still manages to stand out with its simplicity.
While it may not have the same widespread popularity as Yelp, and businesses do not seem to use it as much, Swarm does hold its own as an alternative. It is a useful social media app for those looking to track their experiences, and discover new places. At the same time, it still has the potential to rival Yelp. Of course, first it needs to gain traction in the future. For now, though, I seldom use this app. I am still waiting to see if it becomes more prominent player in the local review scene.
