Nonito Donaire won the WBA Super bantamweight title
Nonito Donaire won the World Boxing Association Super bantamweight title yesterday against Ryan Burnett. Donaire won via retirement on the 4th round at Glasgow, United Kingdom.
During the 4th round, Burnett suddenly took a knee when he throws a right hand. It seems that he injured his lower-back. He still got up and continue the fight but Donaire throws some barrage of punches making Burnett a punching bag from the corner. Burnett survived the 4th round and was badly hurt by his injury. The fight ended in the fifth round which makes Donaire victorious and gets the WBA super world title at 118 lbs. Burnett was on the stretcher and was screaming in pain. The result of the fight was TKO on Round 5 in 1 sec.
I observed that Donaire didn't aim at the lower part of Burnett and aims for the head because he knew that Burnett was injured.
Donaire immediately went to Burnett after the fight to check Burnett and was also checking Burnett even in the post-fight.
Burnett was strong and fast which gives Donaire a great fight. Burnett throws some solid punches with Donaire. Donaire also showed some speed and solid punches. The fight was great but sad to say it ended so early because of the injury. It would be an awesome match if the fight ended in round 12 or won via TKO (if Burnett was not injured). There was no news yet if there would be a rematch between the two.
Burnett now has a record of 19-1 9 KOs while Donaire has 39-5 25 KOs. Donaire will face or meet WBO Champion Zolani Tete of South Africa who defeated Mikhail Aloyan of Russia. There were no reports yet if Burnett will have a rematch against Donaire but I think everybody wants to see it.
