RE: NFL Draft Profile - Sam Darnold, QB, USC #14
Good points. I have mixed feelings about breaking the bank for Cousins. We have so many holes to fill right now and actually a pretty good/young foundation. Taylor would be fine in my eyes. I actually wanted Jimmy G. It’s been so long since we had a viable franchise QB. Sick of “bridge” veterans to groom projects that don’t pan out. We have an offense built on high percentage, 4-7 yard, 3 step drop passes that the Fitzpatrick’s and McCowns actually look good. (Until they get exposed because they NEED to make a play.
My biggest nightmare, is resigning McCown, picking a CB first round 🙄(visions of Dee Milner dancing around my head) and then selling the fan base on a second round project QB because this is a “QB rich draft class”. Telling us it’s the safe thing to do.
We can get a Taylor and have the cap space to sure up the OL line, get a 2nd CB, an edge pass rusher and even a WR that can burn to stretch the field with Robbie.
Sorry for the long response. Lol.
Frustrated Jets fans need therapy sometimes. : )
Thanks! You make excellent points as well. I hear ya with the whole sign a viable "bridge" QB veteran guy (like re-signing McCown) and then going CB and the 2nd Rd QB pick. I can see how that would be the nightmare scenario. Yea Jimmy G would have been a great fit for the Jets, and although its a small sample size, he seems to have the goods to deliver. Fair enough about Cousins, because you're right, its going to take breaking the bank to get him, and like you said, with all the holes to fill, it might make more sense to go in another direction. Glad you like Taylor, I really think he would be a good fit for the Jets, and of course, will come much cheaper than Cousins. Like you said, that would free up more cap space to help sure up the OL line and get some help on D and hopefully add that stretch burner to round up the offense. No need to apologize lol - I lived out in Rhode Island for 10 years surrounded by Patriots fans before coming to southern Cal and it was rough. Personally, I can't stand the Pats, which I'm sure is a sentiment you share lol. Anywho, awesome analysis, I couldn't agree with you more!
Also, check out the post I did on Super Bowl III in the week leading up to this year's Super Bowl if you get the chance and re-visit the Jets finest triumph! Cheers!
I think you have a great opinion on your team and you sure know your stuff. I don't think Cousins would be a good fit in your offensive of scheme. He obviously has more of a long ball then your current QBs. I think Tyrod Taylor would be a great fit, a better version of Geno Smith. He can throw, run, and make plays. He would need some support from your OL. I think drafting another QB means another year of rebuilding. But as you mentioned some of the QBs in this years draft can be solid starters.
Good luck and GO Jets Go!!! LOL
