The Rise of Wan-Bissaka – Is He the Solution to Man United’s Right Back Frailty?
This has been the talking point that has been flying around ever since it was reported that Man United are going in for the Crystal Palace shining right back, and have completed the signing of the player for a fee of around £50m.
Wan-Bissaka, a young right back who quickly rose to the limelight and caught the eyes of many football lovers for his tremendous displays for Crystal Palace, most especially the just completed 2018/2019 premier league season. Taking the opportunity that was given to him in the first team squad, he quickly showed what he is all about and in no time made the right-back spot his own in the Crystal Palace first team. Now a Man United player, he will be faced with a lot of pressure on his shoulders and expectations to prove why he was signed for such a huge fee for a young right back.
Prior to signing Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, Man United’s right back position hadn’t been great for most parts of last season, which made a lot of the Man United fans to constantly cry out for a change of personnel. With the addition of Wan-Bissaka and judging by his performances in a Palace shirt, one can logically presume that he is a huge upgrade to what is currently available at Man United.
What makes Wan-Bissaka such a quality right back?
I believe that a lot of people who have watched him play at Crystal Palace can undoubtedly say that he is quality, and it wasn’t a coincidence to why he was named the Crystal Palace Player of the Year for his displays throughout the season. So what makes Wan-Bissaka such a quality right back?
Speed
I decided to start with this attribute as it is supposed to be one of the key qualities of a modern fullback. Wan-Bissaka is young and fast which really makes him a very difficult opponent to beat when it comes to speed, also this allows him to track back on time and also join up with the attack when needed.
Defensive diligence
This came second for me because every quality right back must know how to properly defend. When it comes to helping the team in the defensive phase, Wan-Bissaka is always there to do his job really well. Coupled with his speed, he has the right combo to return back to his defensive duties as quickly as possible.
Tackling
There are not that many full backs who are actually good at tackling, but he has shown that he can utilize his long legs to great use in the defensive phase and use that to his advantage to tackle the ball off the opponent.
Intelligence
His few awards during his time at Crystal Palace says a lot. He is a very intelligent player and knows what to do at any given situation.
Attack-minded
This is also his very good attribute as a right back. His ability to run with that ball and to initiate attacks makes him a very good asset in the attacking phase.
Crossing
Every quality modern fullback should know how to deliver quality crosses into the box for the strikers to feed on. This is one area that he is also good at, and has the ability to deliver quality crosses into the box.
Is he the solution to Man United’s right back frailty?
For me, I think he will massively be an upgrade at the right back position for Man United. Looking at his qualities and his displays for Palace throughout last season, there is a very probability that he will do well at Man United and will most likely cement the right back spot. A lot of the Man United fans will be happy now that they have a player who is an actual right back and can cross the ball for players like Lukaku who can feed off of these crosses to increase his goals tally. Overall, this is a great signing by Man United and a lot of persons will agree that their right back position frailty is most likely solved.
What do you think about this signing?
I would love to read your thoughts and opinions... Have a great and wonderful day.
I think he will be an improvement

I think his a solid player with decent stats but I don't think he is what United needed, they needed CBs a CM and a striker first. I'm interested to see if he will play ahead of the captain young or will they push young forward again.
Also they paid way over market price for him
