A Visit to Shahi Bagh Peshawar – The Royal Garden of History and Beauty

Shahi Bagh.

I went to Shahi Bagh today 23 August 2025 in the evening and the experience was truly refreshing Shahi Bagh meaning The Royal Garden is a historic park that reflects the Mughal era love for nature architecture and open spaces

Spread over nearly 100 acres it is not only a recreational site but also a living piece of history

Renovation and Inauguration.

Shahi Bagh was originally established during the Mughal period but it underwent a major renovation and was inaugurated on 22 April 2011 on Friday by Basheer Ahmed Bilour who held the honor of Hilal e Shojaat The project was supported with financial assistance from the US Agency for International Development with an estimated cost of 70 million This effort transformed the site from a declining space into one of the most beautiful and vibrant parks in Peshawar

Historical Significance.

The park is situated in Faqirabad Peshawar and is easily accessible to the public It has served as a venue for countless gatherings political meetings cultural festivals and even historical moments It is said that Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah once addressed a public meeting here adding to its national significance

Greenery and Walking Tracks.

Walking into Shahi Bagh the first thing that captures attention is its lush greenery The gardens are filled with tall trees and open lawns where families students and elderly people gather The fresh air and peaceful surroundings make it perfect for an evening walk or a morning jog For those who love fitness the jogging tracks and walkways provide a refreshing way to stay active

Sitting Areas and Cafeteria.

The park also offers comfortable sitting areas shaded by trees and surrounded by colorful plants These spots are ideal for relaxation reading or simply spending time with family and friends The presence of a cafeteria and tea stalls further adds to the visitor experience where one can enjoy snacks and tea while admiring the view of the garden

For children Shahi Bagh has a playground equipped with swings and rides making it a family friendly destination The park also includes spaces like Parda Bagh which has been used for weddings and cultural events Surrounding the park are educational institutions such as Government College Peshawar and Forces School which give the area a vibrant youthful energy

Parking and Accessibility.

Though parking can sometimes be challenging visitors usually manage to find space along the perimeter or near the entrances Despite this the charm of the park always makes it worth the visit

Overall my evening at Shahi Bagh was not just a walk in a park it was like stepping into history while enjoying the beauty of nature With its greenery open air historical value and modern facilities Shahi Bagh continues to be a cherished landmark of Peshawar
