Songnisan Mountain is a peak of Baekdudaegan Mountain Belt located in Naesok-myeon, Boeun-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and spans Boeun-gun and Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is called "Boeun Songnisan Mountain" because there are many scenic and historic sites are located in Boeun-gun. Beopjusa Temple, the largest in Hoseo, is located in Songnisan Mountain, and Beopjusa Temple is designated as Historic Site and Scenic Site No. 4 of South Korea.
Songnisan Mountain has many places related to the number 8, centering on Beopjusa Temple Palsangjeon. There are eight peaks, including Cheonwangbong Peak, Birobong Peak, Gilsangbong Peak, Munsubong Peak, Bohyeonbong Peak, Gwaneumbong Peak, Myobong Peak, and Sujeongbong Peak, and eight "dae" of Munjangdae, Ipseokdae, Gyeongjeupdae, Baeseokdae, Haksodae, Shinseondae, Bonghwangdae, and Sanhodae, and there are eight gates: Naesukmun, Oesukmun, Sanghoesukmun, Sanggoesukmun, Birosukmun, Geumgangseokmun, and Churaeseokmun. In addition, it is said that there were "eight bridges" in Songnisan Mountain, but now only Sujeonggyo Bridge, Hwanseongyo Bridge, and Taepyeonggyo Bridge remain. This means that Songnisan Mountain is a Buddhist land close to Buddhism and separate from the real world, and shows the Buddha's spiritual power through folktales related to Songnisan Mountain.
