The Diary Game [25/09/2025] // Life’s Simple Rhythm in Cameroon.

Steem greetings guys, from the motherland of Cameroon. Welcome to my blog, where I share the simple rhythm of a Cameroonian mother's life.

Today began, as most weekdays do, with the usual early morning scramble. By 4:30 AM, I was already up, the cool air of dawn slipping through the slightly open window. It is always a race against the clock when school days are in session. The kids’ school bus arrives promptly at 6:30 AM, and there is never enough time, no matter how much I plan.

I woke the children gently as it is never easy getting them out of bed, especially my eldest daughter who could sleep through a thunderstorm. While they dragged themselves through brushing teeth and getting dressed, I got to work on a simple breakfast. Bread with avocado spread and tea had to be done today. I packed their bags the night before, so that saved me a few precious minutes. By 6:20 AM, they were at the gate, yawning, bags slung over their shoulders, ready for pick-up. When that familiar black and white bus pulled up, I waved them off, glad we made it just in time.

After a quick tidy-up and making sure my toddler son was dressed and fed, I headed to town with him and my husband. Our first stop was at the Pressbook shop. My daughter’s teacher had written in the WhatsApp group last night that the required French literature book was finally back in stock. That shop is always bustling with students, parents, and sometimes teachers milling about, all trying to find what they need. Luckily, I found the book quickly and did not have to wait too long in line.

Next, I made my way to the farmer’s shop near the market square to get some insecticides. The rains have stirred up a wave of mosquitoes and beetles, and I can’t risk any more bites on the children. The shop was stacked high with gardening tools, sprays, and various farm inputs. I chatted briefly with the vendor and he advised me on a newer brand of insecticide that is both strong and safe to use around children. I bought two bottles, hoping they will last through the month.

Since I was already in town and the day was still young, I decided to pass by the zoo. My uncle works there as a caretaker and I had not seen him in weeks. He was so happy to see us. My toddler’s eyes lit up when we walked past the monkeys and peacocks. He clapped with joy and pointed at everything. It was a short but refreshing visit, a good break from errands.

By the time we got back home, the sun was already blazing. After putting my son down for a nap, I started on dinner. I cooked a big pot of fried rice with vegetables, chicken, and a touch of Cameroon’s signature spice blend. The aroma filled the house, and when the kids returned from school, they couldn’t wait to dig in.

It was a full day, tiring but productive, little wins, I always say. Until my next diary, I wish you all a splendid weekend ahead.

Greetings dear @chant i enjoyed your diary a lot, it was so natural and simple. You managed so much in one day and still shared it beautifully. I could imagine the kids at school, the zoo visit, and the tasty fried rice at home.🤗❤️🌼

I also have to face a lot of hassle getting my son ready for school in the morning. Your fried rice looks very beautiful and must have been delicious to eat.
