Are traditional marriage rites in my village still as inthe days of our grandparents?

Hello friends and family members, accept warm greetings from this end of globe .welcome to my blog today as I discuss about African traditional marriage rites in the various villages my village as case study.Especially, Cameroon I have witnessed different types of traditional marriage rites for example we the NSo, kom, Bali clan etc

Recently with the traditional marriage of my village Nso clan.A village located in the northwest region of Cameroon known as BuI division .I have noticed a lot has changed when it comes to our traditional marriage rites.As development grows,modernism has played a role in changing some of aspect of traditional marriage rites in my village .Making it very expensive to get married from my village.

During, the era of our grandparents and according to cultural rites of my village .Traditional rites of the Nso people was one of the most cheapest tradition to get married to a girl without no stress or extortion.

Men were expected to diary or pay bride price of the bride depending on how the mother of the bride, pride price was paid by the husband .For example in the Nso land if you are getting married and your father diaried or paid your mother’s bride with a tin of palmoil ,colanuts and palm wine .Your to be husband is supposed to provide but the same traditional rites things for you that was same provided for your mother.

Today with this post era of traditional rites in my village .A lot of things have changed , some people termed it modernism as come to play it own role . Now traditional rites in most big compound is measured by how rich or poor a man is capable .To provides things for the traditional marriage rites .One is not only required to provides what the tradition and customs demands .But huge some of money is being extorted from the grooms in the name of marriage .Extra requirements are imposed by the groom to provide in the name of tradition.

At times you see most men are unable to perform traditional marriage rites because of the things asked by the bride family is too demanding.Making it difficult for the groom to provide.Some go to an extent of borrowing to pleased the bride or the family of bride family .All these makes life difficult for most men after marriage .

This baffles me a lot because people are only out to extort others in the name marriage and traditional rites things.I asked this questions What has happened to the traditional marriage rites that was there since the era of our grandparents?.Is this recent extortion inthe name of traditional marriage rites proper in the name of modernism?and why can we not stick to the rightful traditional marriage rites of the custom and law of the land ?.

I think this issue of traditional marriage has taken a different dimension negatively and not positively .Which needs seriously to be address by the community elders .Diaring a women should be measured by how rich or poor a man is capable to provide things .But we should follow the normal traditional marriage rites demanded by our ancestors and fore fathers of our land .In regard to customs and tradition of the Nso clan should be followed.
