Prove yourself as the best artist for the week

Hello steemit friends !, Happy independence day to all my fellow Nigerian Steemians, and I hope you all are good and everything is going well. This week’s contest theme, “Prove Yourself as the Best Artist”, organised by our beloved @dequeen, truly inspired me to go all out and create something bold, detailed, and eye-catching. I saw it as a perfect opportunity to challenge both my imagination and skills. For my entry this week, I decided to challenge myself with a skull-inspired portrait dressed in a classic suit and bow tie. I wanted the drawing to feel both eerie and elegant, combining fine details with dramatic shading. Let me take you through the process of how I created this piece of art.

Drawing process

Step 1

The first step I took in creating this drawing was to first of all write my username and date at the top of my paper; next, I began by drawing the head first.

Step 2

Next I drew two big hollow eyes and used my 8B pencil and my charcoal pencil to shade carefully.

Step 3

Next was the nose; using my HB pencil, I carefully drew the nose, and then I shaded it carefully to make it stand out.

Step 4

After that came the mouth and the lips. The teeth were drawn with patience. I used fine strokes to give each tooth its structure, making the gaps darker for depth. I cleaned up the edges with a kneaded eraser so the shapes looked sharp.

Step 5

Next I focused on drawing the suit and bowtie while drawing the shoulder as well. I used a light sketch to draw it firstly, and then I used my black pen to start adding details to it.

Step 6

This is the final stage where I used my black coloured pencil to deepen the blacks, giving the drawing a bold finish. I refined the edges of the suit and added highlights to the cheekbones and nose. Then my drawing is now finally complete.

Creating this skull-inspired portrait was a rewarding challenge. It pushed me to balance creativity with technical skills, combining smooth shading, sharp details, and imaginative design. I believe this drawing reflects my best effort and truly fits the theme of this week’s contest. Thank you for taking the time to view my art.
