Prove yourself as the best artist for the week
Greetings to you all and a very warm welcome to my blog once again. This post was supposed to be written yesterday but due to some circumstances I was unable to complete it but today I am done with it. Art is a language that speaks from the soul, and in this week’s contest titled :" prove yourself as the best artist this week", organized by @dequeen, I chose to express my creativity through a powerful pencil drawing of a howling wolf standing proudly atop a rocky cliff. Using only a pencil, I poured my creativity and effort into crafting a detailed drawing of a lone wolf standing proudly on a jagged cliff, its head raised in a passionate howl, here are the steps I took in creating this drawing.
Drawing materials
• A4 paper
• 2B pencil
• HB pencil
• eraser
• sharpener
• black pen
Step by step guide
step 1
To begin my drawing, I started with the most expressive part—the head. I carefully shaped the snout, mouth, ears, and neck fur to show the howl’s energy. The mouth was drawn open just enough to suggest a cry, while the ears were drawn upright to reflect alertness.
step 2
Next I now drew the body, legs, and tail. Observe muscle definition and how fur direction follows the wolf’s anatomy, it's back is arched in a proud stance, front legs firm on the rock. Capturing that pose was the foundation of the piece, as it sets the entire emotional tone.
step 3
Next came the cliff. In this part of the drawing i gave the composition its grounding and balance. I used bold lines and jagged shading to form the edges and cracks in the rocks.
step 4
Next I drew was the fur, The fur was where I truly poured in my creativity, Around the neck and chest, I used short, sharp strokes to simulate thick, layered fur. I alternated between 2B and 4B pencils to create texture and shading. I followed the direction of the fur, making sure it curved with the body and flowed naturally.
step 5
After doing that, I then added outline the cliff and the wolf body, added some shading techniques to the cliff as seen below
step 6
Finally, I then added my finishing touches to my drawing by outlining the wolf body and deepen the darkest areas to enhance contrast, clean up any smudges with an eraser, and add any final details like stray fur lines or rock textures. Below is my final result.

This drawing is not just a submission—it’s a reflection of my dedication, growth, and creative spirit. Though it took me a lot of time to achieve but Through this wolf, I hoped to show strength, emotion, and artistic precision, proving that even with a simple pencil, one can create something powerful and unforgettable. Hope you all liked my drawing for today and have a nice day.
