Hello beloved friends in Steem Fashion & Style,
A big thank you to our lovely host @drhira for this beautiful contest. Surprises make life sweeter because they often come when we least expect them, and they leave unforgettable memories in our hearts.

For me, surprise means something valuable and special, something that makes you feel loved and noticed. I hold surprises in high esteem, especially when they come in the form of gifts.

It happened on my 21st birthday. That day started as the most boring and painful day for me. My family, who usually celebrated with me and my twin brother, were in the village. I remembered how my father celebrated our birthdays in the past especially when I was in SS3 writing WAEC, he killed a big chicken for us, prayed deeply from his heart, and made us feel loved. Those memories filled my mind, and I wished he was around to celebrate me again, even if it was just with biscuits.

My gift

But instead of joy that morning, my auntie hurt me with harsh words. She told me to prepare and go to her shop, warning me not to touch her money, and even mocked me about growing older without a future. Those words broke me, and I cried silently while doing sales in her shop. It felt like my birthday had turned into sorrow.

By evening, something unexpected happened. As I was closing the shop, I heard voices singing “Happy Birthday” near the market. It was my close friend from the market! He came out, showered me with money, and presented me with a beautiful framed photo of myself. I cannot describe the joy I felt I danced, jumped, and ran around the market holding the frame. My tears of pain instantly turned into tears of joy.

My surprise

That surprise is one I will never forget. Apart from my father, he was the only one who truly celebrated me. I felt noticed, valued, and very special that day. Until now, that frame remains one of my most cherished possessions. Every time I look at it on the wall, it reminds me that I am loved.
