They were,coffee,black, strong and hot, as it always was, and they sat around on, wooden benches drinking it. Their calm extended to the very air around them — no sounds of the city, just crickets, a soft breeze, tiny slits of the afternoon sun peaking through the open thatched roof in the open-air hut where they were sitting.

The shop was modest, but welcoming. The bamboo cottages with roofs of coconut leaves were in the far distance, ready for the seekers after rest. Behind the shop was a green rice field, and the tranquil peace of nature. This was a little escape from the monotony of the daily grind.

They were both shirtless but one was repping the brand in a white t-shirt, and the other rocked a brightly patterned blue jersey. The table held a couple of mundane items: motorcycle keys, cigarettes, a cellphone. Those things did testify to their affectionate talk, whether of old times, future prospects or just some little joke that set them both laughing.

This togetherness felt so genuine. And nothing fancy was required to feel happy. All you really need in life is a friend, a coffee and somewhere nice to sit. It’s just a simple photo of you two together, but it is everything, and it is evidence that the best moments in our lives are not planned, but are easily missed.
