This place is called Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation. It is also known as Sonargaon Museum in Bangladesh. It is also known as Shilpacharya Joynal Abedin Folk and Crafts Museum. People from different districts and regions of Bangladesh were very expert in handicrafts. They used to make many things by Nakshi Kantha made of yarn, items made of jute, carving brass, clay and wood. This museum preserves all those things made in the old days. This is the main gate. You have to enter through here.
Brief History |

This is a museum building. It is a 3-storey building. Different things are kept on each floor of the 3-storey building. You can see a statue of a man here. His name is Shilpacharya Joynal Abedin. He realized that if this craft was not preserved, it would be lost forever, so he took the initiative to collect and save the crafts. He established it on March 12, 1975, with the initiative to develop and preserve the folk cultural trends of rural Bangladesh. In the first stage, he established the Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation in an old house in the historical Panam city of Sonargaon. Later, he took the initiative to establish it on a larger scale. Keeping that initiative in mind, he established it in 1981. The area of this place was about 150 bighas. He started the activities of this museum under the open sky. He brought crafts from different regions here and gradually began preserving them. The government expressed solidarity with him. In 1998, a law was passed by Parliament to preserve this museum.
