This is Tradescantia zebrina. In Bengali, it is also known as zebra plant, inch plant, or wandering jew. It is a very beautiful ornamental creeping plant. Scientific name: Tradescantia zebrina. Found in Central America, especially Mexico, Guatemala, etc. A fast-growing ground covering plant.

Oval, the leaves have purple, silver and green spots. The underside of the leaves is usually purple. The stem of this plant is soft and creeping in nature. It easily grows roots when it touches the ground. The flowers of this plant are small, usually pink or purple. However, the main beauty of this plant lies in the leaves.

Grows well in partial shade to bright light. However, if exposed to direct intense sunlight, the color of the leaves may fade. This plant prefers light and well-drained fertile soil. Water when the soil dries out. Excessive watering can cause the plant to rot. It grows very easily from cuttings. A part of the stem is cut and placed in the ground or water, and roots grow. It is great for decorating tubs, hanging baskets, balconies or gardens. It can cover the soil, which reduces weeds. It can also be easily grown indoors in tubs or bottles.

This plant grows quickly, so if you prune it regularly, it can be kept in a beautiful bushy shape. If you tear the leaves or break the stem, a light sap comes out, which can cause allergies to sensitive skin. So you have to handle it carefully. It also works as an air purifier, so it is often kept indoors.

A small poem

Silvery green purple print,
A great splash of zebra leaves.

It creeps in the corner of the ground,
It decorates itself with a play of colors.

The sun does not want intense light,
It is whimsical in partial shade.

If you prune it, it grows on the branches,
It decorates the garden with color.

Roots grow on soft stems,
When cut, they give new decorations.

Whether it is a corner of the house or a balcony,
the zebra tree is a colorful trap.
