Chocolate Porridge for a Rainy Day

As predicted on local TV news, the weather report got it right! The rain's been pouring nonstop since morning. And our “ barangay road” turned into slippery mud. Anyway, I'm totally fine with staying indoors today... No worries. As for the kids? Online gaming is life, I just let them stay in and enjoy a lazy day. So here, we are making the best of it, with snacks and a lazy indoor activity.
So I started thinking, what would be a good thing to cook now, especially with the cold weather? I remember that we had a bowl of leftover rice this morning from our breakfast, so why not turn it into rice porridge? So I ask my son, the youngest, what flavor he wants, if he likes to add meat and veggies, or just wants a chocolate flavor (Samporado). As expected, he wanted something that was chocolate-flavored. Good thing we still have cocoa powder left from the chocolate cake that my husband made last time.

So everything here is left over, from rice to cocoa powder, it's a saving meal that I didn't expect. On the other side, I forgot to take a step-by-step photo, which I was planning to use to share this recipe. But time went by so quickly. It only came to my mind after I was done cooking. Oh, never mind, I'm sure my kids still have many more requests that I can turn into posts here.
I spotted a white chocolate bar tucked away in the fridge. Here, why not add a creamy piece to his porridge? Also, the cocoa tastes a little bitter as I kept the sugar light. Good thing I just finished preparing my son's request, so I called him in. His reaction? Pure delight, especially when he took a bite of chocolate between spoonfuls. That was an unexpected twist to a simple dish!

After we finished eating, my kid went back to the room. The rain keeps pouring harder and harder… It's quite scary, especially here in the City, the street might flood again. Plus, rush hour is coming up. Hours from now, the traffic will definitely be terrible. So I told my husband that maybe we should go out by tomorrow to do the grocery shopping to avoid the hassle. I also called our store’s caretaker to take a day off today because transportation is very difficult. Especially since his home is quite a distance away.
Yeah, doing nothing could sometimes taste so good. The downpour outside? The perfect excuse to stay in. Get lazy and cozy for a moment. But still, I was able to transform leftovers into something delicious.
