My Sports Hobby || Football

In life, we all do have hobbies we enjoy every now and then. Sports hobbies are those sporting activities we engage in every now and then either for fun, recreation, and/or a means of providing money.

The sport I love the most is football, though lawn tennis comes as a second but I don't know how to play it. I enjoy watching lawn tennis and would want to learn how to play and handle the racket.

Well let's go back to football, why is football my favourite sport's hobby?

Growing up in Nigeria means a lot of things; the environment we grow up can affect us in a lot of ways, and my country is no different. Football is really popular in Nigeria unlike other sports. We've created rules for ourselves, played different kind of football games. When I was a kid, we had this football game called court...it was just like the lawn tennis but played with a football. We used the hands to serve the ball but our legs does the kicking. The rule of the game is that the ball doesn't hit your part of the court more than once.

I really enjoyed playing this game and it helped with my football skill a whole lot. It helped with accuracy, speed, mental alertness.

I also played street football a lot of times, a five aside, six aside, seven aside and the likes. Most times I had injuries on my leg like a sprained ankle, wounds from falling down and sometimes a dislocation. We would go back home with these Injuries and our parents will get angry at us but then we would still go on to play football the next day.

We kept on having these injuries but we couldn't stay away from football. There was something about football that pulled us back everyday. Once I was disciplined by my parents because of football and I also had my first dislocation. It was bad for me as a kid. I couldn't walk for 1 week, no school, no chores (which made my parents more angry). It healed after the bone was set by a local bone doctor... setting bones was another painful part but we would still go back to play football whenever we got better.

Growing up, I watched a lot of Manchester United games, became a Manchester United fan and loved Cristiano Ronaldo. I wanted to play like Messi too. I breathe football when I was younger. I planned on becoming a professional player but it didn't work out for me but that didn't deter me from playing football.

Football is my favourite sport hobby, it keeps me fit and sharp. I play local football every week with my local football team and currently playing a tournament, with the semifinal coming up on Saturday. I have won three cups in my playing career and it has been a lovely journey so far. I hope to add to this tally come Wednesday.

Football is a great sport that is not only a recreational activity but also beneficial to our health, both mental and psychological. Whenever I play football, I feel excited and happy...it releases my happy hormones which in turn relieves me of stress. It also burns fats and excretes waste from the body in the form of sweat. We all do know that regular exercises keeps the body healthy, this is why I love playing football. Being able to react to being dispossessed in split seconds helps also. I love dribbling with the ball also.
