Greetings friends! I believe you are all fine as I am. I thank @okere-blessing for organising this beautiful contest titled "Who will be my next of kin?". This is my take on this contest.

• What do you understand as next of kin?
Next of kin is seen as the closest person to be contacted relating to a dead person's matter, which could be a parent, a spouse, a sibling or a friend, as designated or indicated by the deceased while alive. Medically, next of kin could mean someone who makes a decision for a sick person where the sick person cannot do so. It is important to note that next of kin can only inherit the wealth of a deceased where there is no will or where he/she is the beneficiary in the will.

• Do you think it's important to have a next of kin or to eat everything when you are alive ?
It is essential to have a next of kin because he or she not only stands to inherit wealth. He/she serves as:

• The first to be contacted when you are in danger.
• The connection between you and your family.
• The decision maker when you are in a challenging health situation that has to do with surgery or any other form of medication that requires a third-party approval or involvement.

While you are alive whether you gather wealth or eat everything, ensure that you impact life. Use your connection, your resources and experience to better the lives of others, allowing them to stand on their own when you are not there.

Yes, there are criteria for choosing next of kin and these criteria are:

• Seek advice
  For better representation when alive or dead, it is important to seek advice and understand the implications of selecting a next of kin from a legal practitioner.
• Reliability: In choosing a next of kin, one has to consider someone who is worthy and responsible enough to handle your resources and make decisions in your best interest, whether you are dead or alive.
• Relationship: It is very important to choose a very close relative like a spouse, child, parent or even sibling, as the case may be. These are people who know virtually everything about you and can represent you out there.
• Accessibility/Availability
  Next of kin should be someone who can be accessed, reached, or contacted easily.

• On what ground should next of kin be changed?
Certain circumstances of life, like Marriage, death, life-threatening sickness (madness), etc, can necessitate the change of next of kin. I also changed my next of kin a few years after my wedding to my spouse. The choice of next of kin is flexible and can be changed countless times. The only condition that your next of kin cannot be changed is when you die.
