The tobacco plant grows two to four feet tall, its leaves are long and wide. There are different types of tobacco, but four types of tobacco are commonly known.

  • 1.Desi tobacco

Its leaves are long but wide, less pointed, and the color is dark green to blackish. Its flowers are pink in color and also appear light white. It is cultivated in our area.

  • 2.European tobacco

Its leaves are long and few in number. It is also less bitter. The only difference is that its leaves are wider and do not point upwards, but are spread out on all sides.

  • 3.Calcutta tobacco

Its flowers are smaller than those of native tobacco and are a lighter green color. The leaves are round and curved.

  • 4.Gujarati Tobacco

The leaves of the tobacco plant are green and large. The leaves have small hairs and a specific type of heavy smell. The taste is bitter, pungent and nauseating. A greenish-yellow oil is extracted from the seeds of this tobacco, which has a poisonous effect. Before the partition of the subcontinent, the tobacco of Gujarat, which was called Surti tobacco, was considered the best. Apart from this, the brain of Malway was also considered good, but there is no other tobacco in Pakistan compared to the indigenous tobacco of Punjab.

Early records show that this plant came to Portugal in 1560 AD and was brought to England by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1582 AD. Since then, its use has been going on, but the methods of use were different. They mostly smoked it to relieve indigestion. Tobacco came to Europe after the discovery of America because it was cultivated in America. Columbus, who discovered America, had also seen Americans smoking tobacco. Tobacco was brought to the Indian subcontinent from England during the last reign of Emperor Akbar. Emperor Jahangir has mentioned it in his historical book. Today, there is no corner of the world where tobacco is not produced or used. Today, its dried leaves are crushed by hand, mixed with granulated sugar, placed under the fire in a hookah pipe, and its smoke is inhaled.

Benefits

Its temperament is dry and cold. It soothes the liver and stimulates the muscles.
It chemically increases dryness in the blood.
Tobacco is mostly used for smoking in a pipe and for eating in a paan. Tobacco smoke thickens and expels thin mucus from the lungs, and also speeds up the bowel movements and eliminates constipation. For asthma and phlegmy cough, four to five leaves are boiled or ground in water and given to the patient to induce vomiting and expel the accumulated mucus from the chest.

Tobacco salt is kept in a pan and eaten. It stops the pain. If there is toothache, it is chewed in the mouth to relieve it. Tobacco is used to expel mucus in the mouth. If the eyesight of the eyes is weak due to mucus, it is very beneficial. Since tobacco has a special effect on the body to expel mucus, its continuous use makes the body thin. If a leech sticks to a burn or nose, to remove it, the pulp of its leaves is placed near the mouth of the leech and it immediately detaches. Tobacco also has astringent effects. This is why its leaves are ground and used as snuff. A little bit of its pulp causes intense sneezing.

Side Effects

Chewing tobacco in the mouth produces a lot of saliva. Due to lack of habit, even a small amount of it weakens the body, makes the person feel nauseous, dizzy, sweats profusely, and the pulse slows down, which often leads to death. The essence of tobacco, called nicotine, is a poison, which, if consumed in excess, stops the heart and leads to death. The most famous scientists of Europe have proven through experiments that by feeding a single stick of nicotine, even the strongest person can die in two minutes.

Fortunately, one stick of nicotine is found in one kilogram of tobacco. No one can eat one kilogram of tobacco, otherwise God knows how many people would have died from tobacco.

Continuous use of tobacco has a very bad effect on the heart, brain, stomach and lungs. Therefore, its excessive use weakens the brain, causes insomnia, sore throat, cough, loss of appetite, shortness of breath with even the slightest exertion, palpitations and male weakness, etc. The most harmful effects are on the eyes.Initially, the vision in both eyes becomes blurred and fine letters cannot be read. If this habit continues, it can lead to blindness.

Its harms have been seen more in minors, the biggest reason being that minors and young children need a constant supply of moisture for their development so that their bodies can grow, become complete and strong, and can benefit from the blessings of youth when they grow up. Remember that youth requires dryness and heat. As the effects of dryness increase in a child, the effects of youth begin to appear in him.

This is why in wealthy families where children are fed more and more meat and hot dry foods, conditions arise due to premature puberty. Girls' breasts begin to grow, menstrual blood begins to flow, boys' beards and moustaches grow, sexual organs begin to move, and they also start having dreams and insomnia. Their premature puberty is extremely harmful to them. Such children become misguided even before reaching adulthood and become a scourge to society. Due to incomplete development of organs, children of all ages remain susceptible to various diseases.

Many people in our area use it in the form of cigarettes and keep the snuff in their mouths, which is called Peda. When its effects wear off, they throw it away and make a new one and put it in their mouths. Apart from this, it is used a lot, the picture of which I will now share with you so that you can also see this indigenous trick. The habit of smoking is spreading in the society day by day. I often see people around me smoking and its most dangerous harm has been seen that its continuous use causes jaw cancer, which causes death of a person. If timely treatment is not given.

When the poppy crop is ripe and ready, its leaves turn yellow. At that time, it is cut and the leaves are kept in the sun for a few days. When they dry out a little, they are pressed into the ground for a few days. After that, they are taken out and made into the form of ropes, the picture of which I am sharing with you. Then, this is taken and used as a pipe in hookah. In our Pakistan and India, in fact, in the entire subcontinent, almost all the old people smoke hookah.

I have shared with you the knowledge I had about tobacco. I hope you will benefit from it and protect your children from it. It is a very dangerous thing. If any friend has any questions about it, they can ask me freely.
