Welcome to Community World Tour: Landscapes & Sacred Sites . I will be taking you once again to Akwaibom state. Here we have so many community sacred sites, one thing about sacred sites in my country is the rules and regulations guiding the place. In some places women or unnecessary pictures are not allowed, but after asking questions about IFA ikot okpon community scared sites , I have to visit.

IFA ikot okpon scared Forest

This place means a lot to the people of IFA ikot okpon village here in Akwaibom state . This place has been preserved for many years, and it is used for many purposes . My father in-law told me that many powerful people have come to buy land where this scared Forest is located but the story behind the forest is not pleasant and the Left. One man greedily wanted to sell this land to church people who wants to convert it into crusade ground on reaching the site bees chased them out of the place, and the man was excommunicated from the community for sabotaging the forefathers traditions.

Here is what I was told about this scared Forest.

During the Nigerian war this place was where prominent rulers lived, it was like a Government reserved Area(G.R.A )of then because of how hidden it was. The village heads and chief worship their gods in this place until one day the soldiers discovered this land and killed all of them. Since then this forest became sacred.
Here are the rules of this place .

  • No woman on her monthly flow goes in here until she is free.

  • It's only for people who want to do initiation into masquerade or becoming a traditionalist.

  • Cutting of wood is prohibited in this land.

  • Pregnant women are not allowed inside the forest.

  • There's no movement around the forest during any initiation.

This place is also used for swearing of oath. In the case of people who committed sacrilege they are brought to this Forest for oath taking, when they stayed for the stipulated time they also come back here to remove the oath with animal sacrifice accompanied by the Ubong IFA (village head) and a native doctor.

My selfie with my native Herb

During my visit to this Forest I got this native Herb that special for curing different kind of diseases. The Efik call it Mbritem, the Igbos call it Okpete the Cameroon call it Monkey sugar cane.

I have been seeing my father-in-law use this plant to cure migraine, high fever and it can be used for dehydration as it contains water.

This plant gotten from this forest can be used as a scrub.

TYPE LESS SMILE MORE Phrase

A tree can not make a Forest. This mean there's unity when more hands are on desk. It illustrates teamwork.

Wow this IFA ikot okpon scared Forest has a deep story attached to it. Well since my curiosity won't let me, I would love to know some things about this forest....

•You mentioned that this forest is used for many purposes like oat taking and initiation, is there any other purpose like performing rituals, sacrifices?

• Can visitors visit this forest, or is it just for the people of Akwaibom? And what happens to someone who visits the forest with their menstrual flow, will they die at once or be sacrificed or what?

• Did you enter the thick forest to get this herb or was it just within the forest?

There's always someone there. Even today I met one man who maybe takes care of this place. I'm sure before someone will enter inside the man will ask the person some questions. I was just around the place I didn't go inside. What we don't know does not kill us therefore if a visitor on her monthly flow enters there nothing will happen to her because she doesn't know but someone that knows and entered with it. Will have herself to blame.

Oh, that's amazing. It must be a sacred place indeed for someone to be there guarding it.

It means there has never been history of tourist visiting this forest?

It's not a popular tourist yet unless for people who knows the place . Hence you can make out time to visit remember when you are free.now you know.

Alright, this information is valid. Thank you ma'am

IFA ikot okpon forest seems to be scary because of bushes and long tress and plants because in such kind of places you may forget the way where you have to go and sometimes compass also don't work in such places!
Well it was a good experience to read your content, although I have not visited any forest still!
Good luck in your participation

Hahahaha, you are not alone. It's truly scary, but if your hands are clean there's nothing to be scared about. Besides people's homes are not too far from there.

Hmm 💀but still I feel afraid from harmful insects or snakes normally present in forests 😂

That sounds strange but then traditions are meant to follow. I totally agree that rules should be followed strictly especially the ones which have sacred meaning. Nice video, nice voice. All the best!

Greetings

My dear friend you have nicely explained and shared in detail about the forest, I really loved that it's strictly prohibited the wood cutting moreover women are not allowed to go in their flow days, it would be good in some instances because few places are really scared.

Good luck

Yeah.thanks for your feedback

I learned a lot about the importance of the Ifa Ikat Akpan sacred grove and the history behind it after reading your article. The way you have highlighted the ancient traditions, taboos and spiritual beliefs is very respectful and educational.
