One Picture One Story Week #96
It has always been my dream to be part of the many solutions we have around to eradicate hunger.
Hello my Steemit friends. Hope we're doing good today. It's another day to share a story with just one picture. I'd like to specially thank @suboohi for always having this beautiful contest organised.
Right from childhood, I grew up to see my mother selling mostly food.
At a point, I joined her in the business of selling bean cake (akara) and pap. We could also say I’ve always thought differently. So, I thought of other ways I could add something else to what we were doing to provide people with more options whenever they wanted to buy.
As customers came to patronise us, some of them asked for a particular kind of pap that they needed for babies alone. In this part of the world, many people believe guinea corn (brown pap) is mainly and only for babies. My mother also thought in that direction. Well, I grew up with that mentality as well.
My mother had been saving up for me from the sales I made each day. It was her way of appreciating me, and to encourage me.
Before I knew it, I fell in love with it, and the fact that I could interact with different people. I noticed there was a lack even when we had other types of pap. So, I asked her to kindly use my savings and buy us that kind of corn so we could process it for pap.
Happily, she did, and we added something new to the market. One day, as I went out to sell, an elderly person bought that same pap for himself.
I had to ask if there was a baby in the house, but he said no. He got the pap for himself and wife. Immediately I got to the house that morning, I picked up my phone and did some research. To my amazement, I discovered more about that kind of pap, and I even gained more knowledge about it.
From my discovery and with the support of my mother, we bought more quantity of that kind of corn, and I made it a serious thing to explain to people the health benefits of that kind of pap, and why it was good for everyone, not just babies.
With consistency, our sales skyrocketed, and it became the second most-sold kind of pap from our business.
Today, wile my mother is still in the business, I had another fresh idea to add to what’s already existing in the market. People complain of how to store pap knowing it could lose its taste over days.
Others wish they could have a combination of the different kinds of pap to make it even more nutritional. We could say I do a little bit of market survey, and I try to come up with solutions to these problems.
So, I made mixed cereal. A kind of pap that has almost every kind of corn in it. It contains: soyabeans, yellow corn, millet, guinea corn and dates. It comes in a powdered form, so you don’t have to worry over how to preserve it.
I pray it becomes big because I’m trusting God for growth.
Meanwhile, the picture above is a sample of what I do myself, from start to finish.
Would like to invite @josepha, @hudamalik20, and @lhorgic to participate in this contest.
