Bathing in the Rain: A Childhood Adventure

in Steem Kids & Parents18 days ago

For many of us, bathing in the rain was one of the most exciting childhood adventures. It wasn’t the usual kind of bath; no soap, no sponge, just pure fun. We hardly ever asked for our parents’ permission; instead, we would rush outside the moment the first drops touched the ground. Growing up in a neighborhood full of children, it was common to see kids running around joyfully in the rain.

sweet childhood memories

Recently, I was reminded of those days when I saw some children doing the same. It made me wonder; who inspires them? Is it something they’ve read in storybooks, or is the thrill of bathing in the rain simply part of childhood nature? For my siblings and me, rainy days were a delight, especially when our parents weren’t home, since they rarely approved of it. On the rare occasions they allowed it, their consent was always short-lived; once they sensed danger, we were immediately called back indoors.

Awesome feelings

But this raises an important question: Is bathing in the rain truly safe? While the excitement is undeniable, the risks are often overlooked. Rainwater is not as pure as it seems. As it falls, it mixes with pollutants in the air, including harmful gases like carbon dioxide, which can form weak acids. This can result in acid rain that may irritate the skin or cause rashes. Furthermore, rainwater often flows over rooftops or open surfaces, picking up bacteria and viruses that can easily transfer to a child’s skin. Some children even drink the rainwater without realizing how unsafe it is.

The natural gift

Another serious danger comes with thunderstorms. Heavy rains are often accompanied by lightning, and letting children play outside during such times can be life-threatening. Additionally, the body loses heat quickly in the cold rain, forcing it to work harder to stay warm; something not entirely healthy for growing children.

Everyone take their turn joyfully

Playing barefoot in the rain adds yet another risk. Hidden sharp objects under stagnant or flowing water can cause injuries that may go unnoticed until they become severe.

A blessing in disguise

For these reasons, parents should be firm in guiding their children. While the joy of bathing in the rain is understandable, the potential consequences are not worth the thrill. A simple rule; stay indoors during rainfall, can save children from avoidable harm.

So, did you ever indulge in this childhood adventure? Were your parents supportive, or did they, like many others, quickly put a stop to it? I’d love to hear the experiences and thoughts of @nsijoro, @bossj23, @basil020 and others.

Saludos Amigo
