Father's Day Celebration: A Review and Significance in Today's World

Father’s Day is a special day set aside to honor, celebrate and appreciate all the male Parents who have embraced the role and responsibilities of fatherhood.
Whether biological, adoptive, or father figures, they are celebrated , appreciated and honored alike. For the sacrifices men who are parents have made to shape the lives of their children and communities with strength, wisdom, and love.

Though it may be Held on different dates in various countries, but the most widely recognized day for Father’s Day that is official recognize and celebrated across the globe is the third Sunday of June. This special celebration is a moment to express profound love and gratitude toward fathers for their sacrifices, guidance, and presence in the procreation and upbringing of a child.

"Father's Day wasn't in existence until 20th century. It was introduced in the United States in the early 20th century as a means to balance the celebration of Mother's day which had been officially recognized long before then".

Later In 1972, President Richard Nixon officially recognized Father’s Day as a national holiday in the U.S. Since then, the tradition has grown globally, with countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria, India, and South Africa also observing it on the third Sunday in June.

Others countries like Spain and Italy, and some Churches like the Catholic Church celebrate it in March to align with religious observances like St. Joseph’s Day.

Beyond the gift cards, gift, Father’s Day serves multiple purposes especially in reminding us of the unacknowledged contributions of fathers in child development, from conception stage to birth till adulthood, emotional support, financial provision, a mentor and a role model, a moral guidance and a disciplinarian.

The role of a father has more to it than the traditional breadwinner to include emotional nurturing and active participation in raising children.

The world seem it befitting to Celebrate and acknowledges this great importance role of fatherhood in modern society. For their love, care and sacrifices they made, the protection and security, and for being a good father.

Another great significance of Father’s Day celebration helps in strengthening family bonds foster love between the wife and the husband and with the children.

It create special moment for children and spouses to reflect on and appreciate the everyday workout efforts put up by fathers to Carter for the family. Be it in form of financial support, providing for the family, offering advice during tough times, or simply being present, this day dig deeper to show great recognition and appreciation on the contributions of fathers influence on the character and well-being of their children.

In Nigeria and Other African Countries, Father’s Day is gradually becoming more popular mostly in Churches. Churches often organize special services where fathers are honored with prayers, songs, and small tokens of appreciation.

Families also gather for meals, give gifts, or even host community events and special gatherings to appreciate their father .

The wife will prepare special meal on this day, set the dinner table, gift the husband, and the children gather around to appreciate their father for his sacrifices, love and care towards them.

Photos of Fatherly figures are all shared on social media platform, praises their father, offering prayers and making them feel special and loved.

For the the ones that have passed away, prayers are offered for the peaceful resting and for eternal life.

Therefore Father's Day is always a day for all male parents, a guidance who have really put in their best by being a responsible and caring husband, and a Father, a mentor, a role model, an adviser , an inspirator, a protector and a defender to their father.

So today the world says THANK YOU TO ALL THE FATHER'S that all your sacrifices are not left recognized. We love you, we pray for you and we appreciate you all.

I want to used this opportunity also to celebrate my Father, Mr Francis Ubokudom who have work so hard to see me through from when I was conceived till this my present day, words alone cannot express my innermost joy I have in having you as a father , my humble wishes is good and sound health, and a very big thank you for being a good father figure to us.
