What I Made: Traditional Pakistani Namakparay – Crispy Salted Snack
Today I decide to prepared one of my all-time favorite desi snacks Namakparay a salty crispy treat that is popular in many South Asian households. These snacks are especially loved during tea time Eid or any festive ocasion. They're quick easy to make and totally addictive once you start munching
Ingredients I Use:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tablespoon semolina
- ½ teaspoon Carom seeds
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Waters
- Oil
Tip: For extra flavor add pinch of crushed cumin
Step-by Step Recipe:
Step 1: Making the Dough
I started by mixing all dry ingredients flour semolina ajwain and salt in large bowl. Then I added the oil and gently rubbed the mixture until it turned crumbly This helps to get that perfect flaky texture.
Next I add waters little by little and knead firm dough I covered it with cloth and let it rest for 15 –20 minute.
Step 2: Rolling and Cutting
I divide the dough into two Portion & rolled each into a medium thin circle Then i using a knife I cut them into diamond shape You can get Creative here cut thems into square or strips if you prefer
Step 3: Deep Frying
I heated oil on mediums flame and frieds the namakparay in small batches to ensure even cooking. stirring occasionally I let them turn golden brown and crispy. once done I draine them on paper towelvto removed exces oil
Cooking Tip: Do not over heat the oil this can cause the namakparay to brown quickly on the Outside but remain raw inside
My Story Behind This Snack
This snack holds special place in my heart. I still remembers how my mother and grand mother used to prepare larges batches of namakparay during Eid or family gatherings. We the kids would sit close by trying to sneak some while they were still warm and Often got lovingly scolde
Now making these myself brings back all those warm nostalgic feeling The aroma of frying dough and ajwain instantly takes me back to my childhoods.
We usually enjoy these with hot cup of chai especialy on cool evening. Stored in a airtight container they stay fresh for up to 2 weeks perfect for unexpected guest or traveling
