Unleashing My Creative side: The Art of Tying Gele
Gele is a traditional headwrap worn by women in West Africa, particularly in Nigeria, Ghana, and other parts of the region. It's a beautiful and elegant piece of fabric that's carefully wrapped and styled around the head, often for special occasions or cultural events.

Gele is not just a fashion statement; it also an important part of cultural heritage and identity. The art of tying gele requires skill, patience, and creativity, and it's often passed down from generation to generation.

In May West African cultures, gele is worn to:
📝Add a touch of elegance to an outfit.
📝Showcase cultural identity and heritage.
📝Celebrate special occasions like weddings, festivals, or ceremonies.
📝Express personal style and creativity.

I had the opportunity to learn the art of gele tying, and I invested 6 months and some hard earned money to master the skills. It was worth every moment! The experience taught me patience, attention to detail, and the value of preserving cultural traditions.

Tying gele is more than just a traditional practice for me; it's a form of artistic expression. I love everything about it, but my favorite part is undoubtedly the arrangement. There's something therapeutic about carefully folding, twisting and draping the fabric to create a stunning piece of headwear.

The process is meditative, requiring patience, attention to detail, and creativity. As I work, I feel a sense of calm wash over me, allowing my imagination to run wild. I experiment with different patterns, colors, and styles, pushing the boundaries of traditional gele - tying

The first step is by measuring your gele, every style has it measurements. So for this particular style I measured 60_ 40 which means the length wasn't the same.
The name of the style is ONE SIDE RUFFLE WITH ROUND.

The arrangement is where my creativity truly shines. I enjoy playing with textures, laying fabrics, and balancing symmetry and asymmetry. Each gele is a unique piece of art , reflecting my mood, inspiration, and skill.

When I'm done, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. The finished gele is not just a beautiful piece of headwear but a reflection of my artistic side. I love sharing my creations with others, seeing the joy and appreciation in their eyes.

My dream is to establish my own shop, not just any shop, but a renowned brand that showcase my gele tying expertise. I'd love to mentor and teach others, sharing my knowledge and passion with wider community.

Furthermore, I'd be honored to have the opportunity to style gele for prominent individuals around the world. Imagine tying gele for celebraties, influencers, and world leader! It's a thrilling prospect to think about bringing this traditional art form to a global stage.

With dedication and hand work, I believe my vision can become a reality. I'd be proud to share the beauty and richness of gele with the world, one headwrap at a time.

For me, tying gele is a way to connect with my heritage while expressing my individuality. It's a celebration of culture, creativity and self expression.

I use pin to pins to secure the folds and bring out the style, adding the final touches to my gele creations.
